Executive Brief

Project Overview

Economic hardship and agricultural volatility often leave rural youth without viable employment opportunities. MCDA's GOLAH initiative provides pass-on livestock breeding stock (goats and chickens) to vulnerable households and young caregivers. Complemented by financial literacy training, village savings associations, and climate-smart gardening, the initiative provides a resilient asset buffer against seasonal crop failures.

Context & Challenge

The Community Need

Youth aged 15 to 24 who complete basic schooling often face acute unemployment, lack of credit access and high susceptibility to seasonal poverty in rural rainfed farming zones.

Implementation Model

Our Response

MCDA delivers breeding pairs of disease-resilient goats and poultry, trains young farmers in veterinary husbandry and shelter fabrication, and integrates participants into Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs).

Grassroots Leadership

Community Participation & Local Ownership

Trained youth groups manage peer-to-peer pass-on agreements where firstborn offspring are passed to neighboring vulnerable families, compounding local economic impact.

Accountability & Verification

Expected Deliverables & Outputs

In Progress

Planned deliverables under active implementation oversight:

  • ✓Breeding goat and poultry packages distributed with veterinary support
  • ✓Youth trained in entrepreneurship, financial management, and village banking
  • ✓Peer-to-peer pass-on livestock scheme expanding to additional community households
